Antifungal activity of medicinal plants against plant pathogenic fungus Colletotrichum falcatum
نویسنده
چکیده
The antifungal activity of eight different medicinal plants namely Aloe vera, Ocimum sanctum, Cenetella asiatica, Piper betle, Calotropis gigantea, Vitex negundo, Ocimum basilicum and Azadirachta indica were tested against plant pathogenic fungus (red rot disease causing agent) Colletotrichum falcatum by agar well –diffusion method. The plants leaves were extracted with various solvents like chloroform, ethanol and aqueous. Among the different plant tested, all the three solvents of the Vitex negundo showed maximum antifungal activity (25 mm) against the plant pathogen tested. Whereas the other plant extracts were showed moderate to minimum antifungal activity.

Increasing public concerns about fungicide residues have prompted interests in biological control especially use of herb extracts derived from several medicinal plants as an alternative strategy for disease management. Recently tomato leaf spot disease caused by Alternaria alternata has become epidemic in almost areas of Iran. This study was conducted for the identification of the effect of ant...
متن کاملThe Sugarcane Defense Protein SUGARWIN2 Causes Cell Death in Colletotrichum falcatum but Not in Non-Pathogenic Fungi
Plants respond to pathogens and insect attacks by inducing and accumulating a large set of defense-related proteins. Two homologues of a barley wound-inducible protein (BARWIN) have been characterized in sugarcane, SUGARWIN1 and SUGARWIN2 (sugarcane wound-inducible proteins). Induction of SUGARWINs occurs in response to Diatraea saccharalis damage but not to pathogen infection. In addition, the...

Development of more effective and less toxic antifungal agents is required for the treatment of dermatophytosis. Plants and their extraction preparations have been used as medicines against infectious diseases. In this research, the lemon grass [Cymbopogon citrates DC.) متن کاملPromising Antifungal Effect of Some Folkloric Medicinal Plants Collected from El- Hammam Habitat, Egypt against Dangerous Pathogenic and Toxinogenic Fungi
Increasing evidence of fungicide-resistant toxinogenic and pathogenic fungal species is obvious. Looking for new possibilities of antifungal treatment or sources of antifungal substances is a major problem. Some medicinal plants exert strong antifungal properties and could be conveniently used as a promising alternative source for presently problematic antifungal treatment in many areas with re...
